In this one day event, Mike Mattesi gives artist an overview of the theories of force and how they apply to drawing the human figure.  Learn how to see rhythm and energy through form, depth and design!  Bring smooth newsprint and China marker or Caran D’Ache to the event.

This four hour workshop, hosted by acclaimed digital fantasy illustrator Jeff Nentrup will cover the major stages of an illustration job. Starting with a concept brief we will cover the design process, digital painting techniques and ultimately how to finish an image.  The relationship between art director and illustrator can be an art itself.  An illustrator must satisfy the needs of the client while challenged to create a memorable image for the masses.

Joe Weatherly, author of “The Weatherly Guide to Drawing Animals’” will focus on learning how to draw animals by using solid drawing principles such as understanding action, form analysis, construction, expressive drawing and simplified anatomy.  This workshop is geared toward all levels of artists that want to learn how to approach animal drawing or take their current knowledge to the next level. 

In this lecture, the mechanics of Film Design will be discussed.  Through a series of quick demos Sam Michlap will cover, in depth,  his ideas about the use  composition and the power of dramatic lighting and color to help tell the right story and emotion. Topics include: Thumbnail sketches in both value and color, composition exercises to help pick just the right angle and point of view for the story moment and how to use different techniques to say the most with each illustration..Demos will include digital painting,  markers and traditional paint.

IArtist and Illustrator Adam B. Forman created many influential works for the film 300.  He worked between the concept illustration, character development, costume illustration, and tattoo design for the make up and FX team.  A long time tattoo artist Adam brings a unique prospective to concept deign and illustration.  He feels that a no boundaries approach to development creates an illustrator who should strive to understand not only the mechanics of what they imagine but also how its visual style functions within costume, hair, makeup, props, to create an image.   

John Nevarez will be sharing his techniques for creating visually stimulating, cohesive and clear storyboards.  he will demonstrate how to approach story through the art of design, pacing, tone and more.  This process is what led John to  his expertise in visual development.

2D animation is coming back! Disney has announced its intention to ramp up its 2D division and at EAA we are preparing students for this new era with this event and animation classes in upcoming terms! Gary Perkovac, lead animator, comes to talk about core principles in animation! Weather you are a beginner or a seasoned professional, you will enjoy this three hour exploration with one of the industry's best!  Gary Perkovac has worked for Disney, DreamWorks and Don Bluth on such films as The "Prince of Egypt," "Pocahontas" and "Secret of NIMH" to name a few. In fact, his over 20 years of animation experience includes work on 12 films in the classical tradition. Through examination of the classics, demonstration and discussion, we will explore 3 golden principles which bring life and magic to the screen and put you in the animation zone.
