JOHN MAHONEY
John Mahoney went to Pratt Institute as an Illustration major. He has directed several documentaries including Tyrus Wong, the designer for the Disney film Bambi and Doug Chang, the art director for the new Star Wars films. He has worked on ten Disney films as an animation designer and has shot the stage show, Madugada, a vampire, Flamenco dance story. He has also written and directed several short films, one of which was accepted into the New York International Independent film festival. He is completing his first live action/animation feature called Chatroom.
His teaching experience includes mentoring artists at the Animation Disney Studio In storyboarding and Visual Development, teaching Character Design, Illustration, Sculpture, and Film design at The California Institute of the Arts, teaching Animation, Storyboarding, and Pixilation at the CSSSA summer program at Cal Arts, teaching Figure Drawing at the Pasadena Center for Fine Arts, the Angie Kim School for portfolio preparation, teaching Stop Motion Animation to high school students and teaching the fundamentals of drawing and design at several inner city high schools. John is currently teaching Production Design at Gnomon.
